Kikankane wins Boxing Day Sprint

Mubiru aka Kikankane in a Mitsubishi Evo10, beat both top crews Ssebuguzi and Hassan Alwi

Duncan Mubiru Kikankane won the Champions' Sprint on Boxing Day at Festino Cite in Mukono, but Ronald Ssebuguzi emerged the overall 2016 sprint champion.

Mubiru aka Kikankane in a Mitsubishi Evo10, beat both top crews Ssebuguzi and Hassan Alwi who turned up for the event.

"I'm happy to win this sprint when top drivers like Ssebuguzi and Alwi (Hassan) are in, but this shows that I am ready for the 2017 NRC title and we are starting the chase with Mbarara," Mubiru said.

 

Mubiru navigated by George Ssemakula in a Mitsubishi Evo10 posted 42 minutes and 6 seconds beating Hassan Alwi and Ronald Ssebuguzi who finished second and third respectively.

Alwi navigated by Enock Olinga in a Subaru N14 posted 44 minutes, 32 seconds while the Shell V-Power and Centenary bank sponsored Ssebuguzi navigated by Leon Ssenyange in Evo10 posted 52 minutes, 13 seconds.

 

Ponsiano Lwakataka, Wycliff Bukenya and Peter Kalule finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively while Fred Wapamba rolled his Subaru N10 in the first run.

Youngster Ali Omar finished fourteenth overall out of 20 entries and was the only buggy rider who managed to finish the event.

Arthur Blick Jr., Unisan Bakunda and Paddy Blick dropped out of the event after the first run.

 

Earlier in the morning, motocross riders entertained the mammoth crowd that braved the hot and dusty day.

Motocross riders were given sh8m which they pledged to pass onto the Kiggundu family to help riders Habibu Kiggundu and Fatuh Kiggundu continue with their carrier.
