Pool star Sula retains Christmas Cup

Sula Matovu overcame a 5-2 deficit to defeat Amos Ndyagumanawe in the final of the pool association of Uganda annual Christmas Cup.

Matovu managed to claw his way back from an untenable position to snatch the victory from Ndyagumanawe's grasp.

"Amos was playing very well and at some point he was leading by 5-2. If he had won the next two games, he would have taken the championship but I fought hard to win by 7-5," Matovu said.

Matovu also felt he drew confidence from having been in the same position before in his pool career.

"I didn't do a lot differently this time but I have defended a title before so I did enough to win," he emphasised.

He also went on to attribute his success to God.

"I would like to praise God for this victory for without him I would not have done it," he said.

Seventeen year old Lukia Naiga earned herself sh500000 on the women's front. Naiga deafeated Aisha Madondo to claim her first pool title of the year.
