Policeman pins Kananura, brother in murder case

A police officer has told court that Andrew Kananura popularly known as Desh and his brother Raymond Kananura appeared scared when they recovered the body of their employee from one of the shelter inside Panamera bar and Lounge in Naguru.

Testifying in court, Edgar Akankwasa, formerly attached to Kira Police station submitted that the body of Badru Kateregga was identified by Kananura's brother.

"I asked Desh and Raymond whether they knew the victim and Raymond told us that it was for one of the waiters in the bar. I touched to check whether he was still breathing. I discovered that he was cold meaning that he was dead. On seeing the body of the waiter, Desh and Raymond appeared to be scared," he said.

The court was presided over by Justice Joseph Murangira.

Akankwasa told court that after recovering the body, he asked Desh and Raymond what had happened and Desh informed him that there was somebody who saw what had happened but he had switched off his phone.  

He was testifying in a case where Kananura and his co-accused are on trial for the alleged murder of Kateregga, who was a bar attendant at the bar. The co-accused includes Cyrus Maganda, Jacob Onyanyo and Samuel Muzolewo.

According to the Penal Code Act (PCA), any person who is convicted of murder faces a maximum penalty of death.

There were two counters at the bar. He said he was observing whatever was going on in the park yard.

"On September 25, 2012 at about 7:00pm, I received instructions from DPC Robert Walugembe to deploy at Panamera bar. I went with nine officers. I deployed two constables at the gate, one at the entrance and another one at the exit."
