Andrew Ssenoga is over the moon after overcoming stiff competition to win his first Mr. Uganda Bodybuilding title at Freedom City Auditorium on Sunday.

The reigning Mr. Kampala, who in September also won the Germany International Bodybuilding Championships in Siegen, beat over 60 contestants including six finalists to grab his third title this year.

It was his fifth attempt at the title that until, at last year's championship in Lira had been dominated by Ivan Byekwaso. Last year's winner Ben Lukwago opted out because he had just won it and is also focused on making mark on the international scene next year.

"It has not been easy, but I've invested a lot of resources and training ever since I returned from Germany and it good to see that it has paid off. Like you saw the competition was tough, but I thank God, my fans and the Buziga Country Club gym for being there for me," Ssenoga said.

"I think I was better conditioned than anyone and all my muscles were well defined. This win now gives me more courage to prepare more and represent Uganda on the international scene, in Dubai, South Africa and the US, but I need financial help to achieve that," Ssenoga said.

Runner up Lameck Muwanga of Nalukolongo Power Gym was gracious in defeat and promised to come back strong next year.

"It has been a good championship and I think I matched him in all aspects but he had height advantage over me, but I'm even going to work harder next year to dislodge him, he should be prepared "  Muwanga vowed.

The surprise of the day was in the Light Heavy category where Isaac Mubikirwa beat Joel Byron, to make the final.

Byron who was runner up to Ssenoga in the Mr. Kampala championship was shocked by the judgement and will quickly head to compete Kenya to prove he deserved better than second place in the Light Heavy category.

The championship was spiced up by a ladies muscle modelling competition that attracted Irene Kasuubo, Irene Nakimbugwe and Hafswa Nalumansi, with the former taking the Miss Uganda Fitness crown.

The championship organised by the Uganda Body Building and Fitness Association was sponsored by Freedom City, Nuit A' Paris Gym, University of Pain, Fit for Life Gym and UBBFA patron Irsat Gunawan who is based in the US.
