Jinja Club golfers Opio Onito and Brian Toolit returned one-under-par 71 to finish joint top after the first round of the Kakira Open at Jinja Club on Thursday.
Going into the final round of the sh10m, two-day, 36-hole competition, the two are two strokes ahead of Entebbe Club's Vincent Byamukama who shot one-over-par 73 just like Herman Mutaawe who is also joint second.
Silver Opio and Lugazi's Ronnie Bukenya follow closely, in joint third with Deo Akope in fifth.
Like it has been in earlier competitions this year, the tournament is closely fought out with Lawrence Muhenda and Gerald Kabuye also tied in joint fifth.
Last year's winner Saidi Mawa and runner up Phillip Kasozi alongside George Olayo and Robert Oluba are tied in tenth position on 77 gross each.
