For flower lovers, we all know pots are a must have.  However, as a way of saving and also adding a unique touch to your garden, one can use dormant household items to grow flowers.

One can choose to use old bathroom ware like toilet seats, bath tabs, basins or old furniture like chairs, tables, drawers.  He adds kitchen ware, water containers, shoes, boots, shoe racks, bags and children toys like wagons can also be used.

"Do not throw away logs,  wheel barrows, tool boxes, poultry feeders or old beer and soda crates because they too can substitute flowers pot," Rutonyi advises.

He continues that, get any of the above item you no longer use, clean it up and if you wish, decorate it by painting to make it attractive.

Prices for flower pots

Flower pots are made in different materials like clay, plastic and concrete and each has a different price depending on the size. Rutonyi, explains that a small plastic pot costs between Shs10,000 and Shs20,000, medium size ranges from Shs20,000 to Shs30,000 whereas  a big pot costs Shs80,000 to Sh150,000.

He adds a small clay pot goes for Shs 20,000 to Shs40,000 while  medium size costs Shs 80,000 and big goes for Shs300,000. And a mid-sized concrete pot costs Shs30,000 to Shs40,000.

"Instead of spending on pots, it's better to use items around us as long plants flourish in them," he advices.
