Trump's victory excites Teso

Some say the mogul's election into power is a blessing to Africa.

Donald Trump's stunning victory in the just-concluded US presidential election has left a number of political leaders in Teso sub-region reeling in excitement.

The Republican beat his main challenger Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton following months of intense campaigns.

As expected, the result has had a ripple effect across the world, including here in Uganda, where reactions have been mixed.

But particularly in the eastern part of the country, a Trump win has been seen as a blessing by a section of local leaders in Teso, while some have differed in views.

Joseph Erisat, who is the LC5 chairman of Amuria district, says Trump's election into office will impact positively African countries on economic grounds since "Donald has a wealth of experience as a businessman".

He also calls the tycoon's ascension to power as a blessing to Africa, since he was vocal during his campaign about dealing with African political leaders who stay long in power, promising to create balanced leadership in the world.

But others, like Kumi Municipality MP Cyrus Aogon, believe Trump's stance on long-staying African leaders will compromise Uganda's economic development.

He says Trump will put Uganda on the course of losing its resources to the whites who have vested interest in Uganda's minerals including the Albertine oil.

But Hellen Adoa, Serere Woman MP, shares different sentiments. She argues that Trump will be no threat to Uganda's politics, saying that Uganda has governing laws which don't allow the US to underrate it.

She hailed the election of Trump into power, saying each leader is chosen by God, and called on Uganda to borrow a leaf.

Trump will succeed Barack Obama as the 45th president of the US.
