Sh220b needed to fight Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a viral infection that attacks the liver. The virus is transmitted through contact with the blood or other body fluids of an infected person, according to the World Health Organization.

The government needs up to about sh220bn to fight the Hepatitis B burden in the country.
In a statement, health minister Dr. Jane Aceng said they had so far only committed sh23 billion to deal with the deadly disease.
She was, however, quick to stress that more funding was expected to be released in a phased manner.

The government has identified 39 high disease burden districts where screening and vaccination will be rolled out.
