Upon an impromptu visit to the facility, the health unit was found abandoned.

Oryang health centre II in Pader district has been closed while its in-charge has been arrested over allegations of negligence of duty and abuse of office.

The facility is located in Otok parish, Pajule sub-county.

The area chairperson Brilliant Okello Tito confirmed the closure and arrest of Mao Otyang Ocen, the in-charge and James Okoya who is still at large.

Tito said he was implored to cause the arrest following widespread concerns by a section of community members who alleged that they have been facing challenges accessing health services since the facility was abandoned.

Upon an impromptu visit to the facility, Tito said he was astonished to find the health unit abandoned and left in the hands of a section of sympathetic village health team members who were prescribing and administering drugs to patients.

He said investigations indicate that the two have on several occasions been implicated in absentiseem.

The chairperson noted that investigations against the two health officials are under way as they make consultations on deployment of health staff to the facility.
