Politicians from Busoga region have commended President Yoweri Museveni for giving them some of the juicy cabinet positions in his government.

The politicians led by the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga also thanked the President for ensuring that the position of the Speaker of the house went to the daughter of Busoga.

"Dear President, we thank you so much for the ministries you gave us and for supporting me to retain the office of the speaker of Parliament," Kadaga said.

The leaders from Busoga made the remarks during the celebrations to mark the Global Hand-Washing Day for Uganda at Kamuli District headquarters on Friday.

The function was attended by the ministers from Busoga region who included the Minister for Works, Monica Ntege Azuba; Minister for Presidency Esther Mbulakubuza, and State Minister for Karamoja, Moses Kizige.

The State Minister for Works, Aggrey Bagiire and the Secretary General of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Kasule Lumumba also come from Busoga.

Busoga leaders also congratulated the President for winning the 2016 Presidential elections and a subsequent court case that was challenging his victory.

"We could not even understand why someone would dare to go to court to challenge your victory yet you had out-rightly won the elections," Kadaga said.

In the 2016 Presidential election, President Museveni defeated his rivals in all the districts of Busoga, which include Jinja, Namutumba, Kamuli, Bugiri and Mayuge.

Busoga has also voted for President Museveni in all the previous elections in 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2011.

The Minister for Presidency, Mbulakubuza told President Museveni that Busoga would still rally behind him in the 2021 Presidential elections.

But according to the Constitution of Uganda, President Museveni may not be eligible to contest for the Presidency again in 2021 because he will be above the 75-year-age ceiling according to the Constitution of Uganda.

In his speech, Museveni thanked Busoga for the support he got from the region in the previous elections and appealed to them to stay with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) because it the only political organization that can guarantee the security of the country.
