Mao says the NEC will also declare vacancies in the party structures of various organs at all levels countrywide.

The Democratic Party (DP) has finalized plans to construct Ben Kiwanuka House in memory of one of its founders.

"The National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting set for October 31 is going to consider the draft architectural plan and Bill of quantities of the proposed Ben Kiwanuka House," party president Norbert Mao told a weekly press conference in Kampala.

"The meeting will also appoint the building committee, the party's annual budget and accounts and endorse the countrywide outreach activities."

Mao said the same meeting will also approve the agenda for the National Council (NC) slated for November 28.

"We shall have an NC which will comprise of the NEC, parliamentary group and chairpersons of all district branches."

The DP leader said the NEC will also declare vacancies in the party structures of various organs at all levels countrywide. "This is for the purposes of processing candidates to be elected by National Council."

Other issues to be discussed will include work plans of democratic women league and Uganda Young Democrats, update on court cases and a report on the DP printing press.

It is understood that the meeting will also foster amendments within the party constitution so as to align with the current political environment within the country.

"I will not specify which articles are to be amended but members will ensure that the constitution suits the current times."

Mao called on all aggrieved party members to join them on board to ensure that the party moves together without broken factions.

"We have always sounded a call for reconciliation and this time we are moving together with other members to the Delegates Conference (DC) to ensure leadership renewal at national level, unlike last time when several members boycotted the DC."

Meanwhile the party youth league has warned the Youth and children affairs state minister Florence Nakiwala to stop masquerading as a member of DP.

Makindye division UYD chairman, Mubiru Wasswa said; "We officially denounce the membership of Minister Nakiwala Kiyingi that she is no longer a member of the party and her membership seized to be on the day she accepted the appointment as minister in the ruling regime.

"We also petition NEC to give its position on the same before the end of October," he added.
