Outcry over gambling activities in Apeduru

Oct 11, 2016

Some leaders are believed to have been compromised.

Apeduru sub-county top political leadership in Amuria district is frustrated by some local leaders encouraging the existence of gambling machines at the town centres.

Paul Esogu, the councilor representing Apeduru at the district council says he is disappointed that the leaders who should have participated in stamping out poverty are instead encouraging idleness among the youth through promoting betting activities.

According to him, it seems some local leaders have been compromised in one way or the other in accepting these machines to operate at the centres.

He says attempts to confiscate some of the gambling machines from the sub-county have been frustrated by some local leaders, adding that those suspected to be doing so are now being investigated.
