Youth are forced to steal to get money for meeting personal needs

Serere district leadership has warned youth across the district against wasting time loitering in a bid to increase productivity among them.

This follows criticism of youth for spending a lot of time in trading centres engaging in unproductive activities like betting and gambling among others.

Bosco Okello the Serere district speaker said many youth in Serere have indulged themselves in unproductive money consuming activities like gambling in trading centres.

According to Okello, the habit has brought a burden of increased theft in the district.

He said that the youth are forced to steal to get money for meeting personal needs.

"How does a strong person go to the trading centre and comes back home to demand for food which they didn't cultivate? That is not proper and the youth need to learn good morals" Okello stated.

Okello urged the youth to engage in productive activities like bricklaying and poultry farming among other income generating activities in order to avert the problem of unemployment which the country is grappling with.

He is optimistic that youth's engagement in such productive activities will help increase the districts' trust in the youth as well as increasing productivity in the district.
