Eleven houses destroyed by fire

Eleven houses at Banga Landing site in Mugoye sub-county in Kalangala were on Saturday night destroyed by fire.

According to police, the fire was reportedly started by Juliet Nakawungu, who onlookers said she could have wanted to harm her former husband Ismail Kigongo and another woman identified as Jedah Nanyonjo, who was suspected to have been in love with Kigongo.

James Mutyaba, one of the residents who lost everything in his house, said fire stared at Kigongo's  house, when he was inside with Nanyonjo.

'Before starting fire, she first locked them inside with a big padlock. We had to use a big stone in order to open the padlock and rescue them,"  Mutyaba said.

James Nandu, a police liaison officer Kalangala district said people lost millions of shillings and 56 have been left homeless.

'The Police arrested the suspect and he is being held at Nakawungu Police post.
