Global election forum meets in Brussels

Commenting on the forum, Kaheru reiterated the importance of the platform as a perfect space to promote Uganda’s positive political values

The Second Global Forum of Citizen Election Observers is currently taking place in Brussels, Belgium.

The two-day high-level forum has brought together over 250 prominent representatives of citizen observer groups, key civil society organisations from all over the world with representatives of international institutions working on governance issues.

The 2016 forum has been convened by the European Commission and is specifically engaging global election actors in discussions around challenges of election observation as well as creating a platform to deliberate on sustainable solutions.

At the forum, the Coordinator, Citizens' Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU) Crispin Kaheru and the National Coordinator, Alliance for Election Campaign Finance Monitoring (ACFIM), Henry Muguzi are representing Uganda.

Kaheru moderated an international panel on: ‘engaging with other national stakeholders to advance civic education and voter education' on the first day of the forum.

Commenting on the forum, Kaheru reiterated the importance of the platform as a perfect space to promote Uganda's positive political values on a global stage but also draw the inspiration to shade off the bad electoral habits.

"This is an important forum to showcase Uganda's achievements in as far as elections are concerned, but also an opportunity to learn from the rest of the world in as far as improving our electoral processes are concerned" said Kaheru.

The Forum of Citizen Election Observers is the biggest platform bringing together the widest variety of election stakeholders from across the world to reflect on major challenges affecting elections.
