President expresses sympathy to Tanzania on killer quake

The President conveyed his sympathy through Tanzania's Acting High Commissioner to Uganda, Ambassador Elibariki Maleko, who called on him this afternoon at State House, Entebbe.

President Yoweri Museveni has expressed his sympathy to the people of Tanzania over the earthquake that hit Tanzania's Northwest Region last Saturday. Its epicentre being near Bukoba area, the quake left a trail of destruction including 17 people dead with over 250 admitted with numerous injuries. The tremor caused extensive damage to properties including houses and a 200-kilometre stretch of road badly cracked.

The tremor, with a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale, also caused a trail of damage in Uganda's neighbouring Mutukula area in Rakai district where more than 500 homes were ravaged.
