Ugandans welcome Besigye, Byanyima medals

Sep 13, 2016

Kizza Besigye served both as a member of the National Resistance Council and the Constituent Assembly

Forum for Democratic Change's Dr. Kizza Besigye and his wife Winnie Byanyima are among the personalities lined up to receive the Golden Jubilee medal later this month.

According to a statement from Parliament, the September 29th awards have been organised by the Presidential Awards Committee, are to recognise the Members of Parliament who have served in the different legislatures from the time of Uganda's independence, in recognition to their service to the nation.

Byanyima was once a Parliamentary representative for Mbarara Municipality, while Besigye served both as a member of the National Resistance Council and the Constituent Assembly.

While Byanyima was among the awardees of the Nalubaale and Rwenzori medals, Besigye has never received any medal, making this his first time to receive a medal.

The two have so far remained tight lipped on the matter, and it's not clear whether they will attend the ceremony.

In the past, current FDC president, Mugisha Muntu was among the Golden Jubilee Medal awardees but did not attend the ceremony.

Social Media Reacts

Ssozi Patric: Being in opposition doesn't mean that you're not contributing to the development of this country. The dev'ts can be political, economic or social for which i believe he has done his best in these fields. Remember some of the programs being implemented were his.

Jonathan A Natsami: Even this medals we're just wasting the money because we'd not fight for it...Nevertheless that one is simple for Museveni because his the king, it will be up to Dr. Kizza Besigye and his wife to take a rightful choice.

Max Isaac: WE DON'T NEED MEDALS. Since when did Museveni realise that Besigye put a brick on building Uganda? It is that moment when a leopard kills an elephant and realises that it can't eat and finish it alone.

Mwesigwa Nelson: He will be reorganizing his advises and being the strongest leader on the opposition side who can threat his seat. But let us wait who of the two or three will skip.

Makola Yonah: Of course Besigye is going to "miss". Anyway let's wait n see

Muwanguzi Peter Saimon: Will Besigye accept it in the first place? Let us wait.

Bagaineyoamatsikoomuriruhanga Osbert: One time he will even handover da powers to Besigye ......coming soon

Venansio Tumusiime: Those are just political games that we have always observed time and again!!!!!!

Matovu Patrick: Because they deserve it. That's how politics must be working

Shaban Katongole: Museveni will skip that function like he skipped Aronda ceremony
