Man who survived suicide jump in Kampala dies

“It’s true he died yesterday [Tuesday] night at Mulago Hospital."

KAMPALA - A young man who survived death after attempting to take his own life by jumping off a building in Kampala has died a few days later, police said on Wednesday.

Mustafa Lule, 20, had talked of how surprised he had been at surviving the dizzying fall off Mabirizi Complex located along Kampala road, a few metres away from the Central Police Station.

His mother was equally shocked that Lule had escaped with only a broken arm.

But the young man, who only days ago on his hospital bed revealed that a number of problems had literally pushed him to the edge of desperation, breathed his last Tuesday night.

"It's true he died yesterday [Tuesday] night at Mulago Hospital after we rushed him there for treatment," said Paul Kangave, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson.

Earlier, while in hospital, his mother Namakula appealed to well-wishers for sh450,000 to pay for a head scan on her son.

When he plunged off the building after peeling off his shirt five days ago, Lule crashed into a car parked by the roadside - breaking his fall.

He had told his mother about the problems troubling him, plus even his suicide plans, but that she had appeared not bothered.

Lule said he went to Mabirizi Complex because he had worked there some time back.
