The annual National Volleyball Championship men's competition aborted over the weekend when 10 participating clubs including the quarter-finalists ganged up against Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) demanding its disqualification.

The teams that include Sky, Sport-S, Mattrixx, UCU, Nkumba, Nemostars, Ndejje, Tigers, KCCA and COBAP were protesting KAVC's decision to field semi-professional player Daudi Okello.

"We have got communication that KAVC is using an illegal player. We the undersigned have agreed to pullout of the competition or KAVC is banned from using the player (Okello)," a statement signed by officials of the above clubs read in part.

Not even a meeting mediated between KAVC and the clubs to resolve the disagreement could yield a result because KAVC backed by the federation has insisted they have not violated any rules.

UVF vice president Godwin Sseonyonjo said that another meeting would sit on Friday to ensure that the men's championship is concluded.

Meanwhile, Peace Busingye and Yvette Igihozo were in sparkling forms as Sport-S women beat Ndejje Elites 25-17, 23-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-8 to list the 2016 title at Nkumba University, Entebbe.
