David Emong competes in the 1500m and 400m

Uganda's only representative at the 2016 Paralympic Games David Emong is aiming to better his past record at the 2012 London  Olympics when he steps on the track for this year's games in Rio De Janeiro due September 7-18.

Emong was flagged off by National Council of Sports (NCS) secretary Nicholas Muramagi at a function held at NCS offices in Lugogo.

Emong who competes in the 1500m and 400m finished fourth in London but won a bronze medal at the All Africa Games the same year and a silver medal in the Africa Games last year in Congo Brazzaville.

"This time I want a gold medal in London. I narrowly missed the medal bracket but now I have had enough training and will go for gold" Emong stated.

His coach and team manager Innocent Tumwesgye said Emong is ready for the Games and is optimistic he will achieve good results.

Muramagi wished Emong success, urging him to win a medal for Uganda at the games.

"We have fully facilitated Emong and he has no excuse" Muramagi stated.
