NRM sweeps victory in new districts polls

Voters in the new districts went to the polls to elect the district chairpersons and the district Woman MPs in what the Electoral commission described as largely free and fair elections.

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has swept majority of the elective top seats in Monday's polls in Kagadi, Kakumiro, Kibaale, Omoro and Rubanda districts.
Voters in the new districts went to the polls to elect the district chairpersons and the district Woman MPs in what the Electoral commission described as largely free and fair elections.
In Rubanda district which was curved out Kabale, NRM's Akampurira Prossy Begumisa emerged victorious for the district Woman MP Seat after taking 32706 votes. An independent candidate Hilda Kabarungi came second with 19486 votes while Vastine Katushabe came third with 3, 479 votes.
The Rubanda district registrar Ismail Atwijukire declared NRM's Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema new Rubanda district chairperson at about 2:00AM after getting 32899 votes. He was followed by independent candidate Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba who polled 20845 votes, FDC's Joseph Ruhangariyo came third with 1172 votes while Nelson Habasa came last with 316 votes.
