Prime Minister Milton Obote said the Uganda People's Congress (UPC) government would not tolerate any attempt, direct or indirect by any political party to undermine by force or subversion the wishes of the people.
 
Obote was commenting on his party's victory in the West Nile district elections. He said the UPC party would not hesitate to invoke the laws and resources of the united people of Uganda to deal with any person or all who might have been found guilty of undermining the security and good governance of Uganda.
