On this very day 38 years ago, Kenyan first President Jomo Kenyatta was pronounced dead.

Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was the leader of Kenya from independence in 1963 to his death in 1978, he served first as Prime Minister between 1963 and 1964 and then as President from 1964 to 1978.

He is considered the founding father of the Kenyan nation.

Kenyatta was a well-educated intellectual who authored several books, and is remembered as a Pan-Africanist. He is also the father of Kenya's current President, Uhuru Kenyatta.
