A baseline survey report on the experiences of little people in accessing healthcare services was on Friday launched by the programmes manager disability and human rights at National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU), Esther Kyozira.

The survey was carried out by little people of Uganda, an NGO that champions the rights of little people, or people with short stature.

The function at Makerere University attracted over 100 little people and parents of little children.

It was also graced by Prof. Tom Shakespeare, a little person and lecturer at East Anglia University, UK.

Prof. Shakespeare advised the little people to work in solidarity with other organisations of disabled persons, arguing that the disabled persons experienced similar challenges.

Annet Nakyeyune, the founding director of Little People of Uganda called upon government and all members of the public to be mindful of the needs and human rights of little people.

Little people are persons with dwarfism, a genetic disorder that affects born cartilage growth, which results in either proportionate or disproportionate short stature.

The function was also graced by the Guild President of Islamic University of Uganda (IUIU), Shahali Mugamba.
