Sauti Sol to Ugandan musicians: 'Keep knocking that door'

KAMPALA - Kenyan Afro-pop band Sauti Sol is Uganda for the Club Megafest show to be held this Saturday at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

This will be the second time they are performing in the country, after last year's do that was held at Kampala Serena Hotel.

To the four lads, Willis Chimano, Savara Mudigi, Bien-Aimé Baraza and Polycarp Otieno, performing in Uganda complements their mantra ‘To live and die in Africa'.

At a press conference in Kampala on Friday, the group urged burgeoning Ugandan singers to emulate them through pushing hard until they make it.

"Just keep knocking that door until it opens," Bien Aime Baraza, the group's lead vocalist, urged, in response to local musician Maro's question about making it to the top.

"You have to be aggressive if you want to make it in the industry. Come to Kenya and hold media talks the way your people like Navio [rapper] have done before.

"By the way, Ugandan music is loved in Kenya. I go to clubs and I hear a lot of Ugandan music. Some of you artistes need to start going that side and push yourself. You will make it."

At the briefing, in attendance were local artistes Navio, Maro, comedian Patrick Salavdo Idringi and Maddoxx.

Maddox expressed his elation at being on the cast to perform on Saturday. "I am excited to perform alongside Sauti Sol. Since it is going to be a live performance, I am going to give you the best time of roots reggae."

Popular for songs like Sura Yako, Shake Your Bam Bam and Malikia, Sauti Sol are also known for delivering enchanting stage performances. Other performances will come from Maurice Kirya, Sheebah and Ziza Bafana.
