Motocross team gets cash boost from govt

FIM Africa Nations Motocross Championship

The national motocross team for the FIM Africa Motocross Championship has been boosted by sh12m pledge by the ministry of education and sports.

The motorsport governing body (FMU) wants a minimum of sh50m to take a full squad of 40 riders for the annual championship.

"We need at least sh50m to take a full team but we are lucky that the ministry has promised sh12m which is a big boost to us," FMU deputy vice president in charge motorcycling Ismail Balinda confirmed.

Uganda won the Africa championship in 2012 having finished fourth and fifth in the previous editions.

Balinda explained that sh22.4m will cover team registration, transponders on competitors' bikes, riders' license fee and insurance and air evacuation to hospital in case of any eventuality. 

Then sh28.6m will cover the riders accommodation, transport and feeding for the three days in Kenya.
