'Use road money to improve access roads'

Aug 04, 2016

There are reports that some sub-counties do not use the money provided for roads.

Gulu district secretary for Works and Technical Services, Patrick Kinyera has asked sub-county leaders in Gulu to make good use of the road funds they are sent for community access roads.

Kinyera's call follows reports that the road funds that are disbursed by government to districts and sub-counties are either underutilized or not utilized at all and returned to the central treasury at the end of the financial year.

Kinyera, who doubles as the area LC5 Councilor for Palaro sub-county, said Gulu district received some 50 culverts last financial year from the Office of the Prime Minister to improve access roads.

Meanwhile, Gibson Okullu, the area LC1 chairperson of Lukodi village in Bungatira sub-county said the 7km community access roads that connect Lukodi with Cet-Kana have become inaccessible for especially school-going children.

He said this is so because the three water streams of Lukome, Loyo-boo and Kolo bila along the road need culverts and bridges.
