He promised to assemble a good team to represent Uganda

Newly appointed U 19 boys rugby national team coach Brian Makalama started work focusing on basic rugby skills which include tackling, clearing rucks, defending positioning and game reading.

Makalama is preparing team for the Rugby Africa U 19 1B tournament due August 22-29 in Madagascar.

"Today we went through basics which are key to the boys at this level because fitness is not much a necessity at this stage," Makalama explained.

He promised to assemble a good team to represent Uganda in Madagascar despite the little time given to prepare it.

"We need like three months to build a strong team, but we shall assemble a good team by August 22nd," Makalama stressed.

He also explained that he will concentrate on improving their skills including tackling, rucks and game reading which is their challenge.

Makalama is assisted by Dennis Etucket, Benjamin Temper (strength & conditioning coach) and Valence Bizimana (team manager).
