Bwanika accused the district revenue collectors of stealing the district taxes and he believes the data base will check the revenue loss

Wakiso district chairman Matia Lwanga Bwanika has instructed the chief administrative officer Dunstan Yiga Mukasa to put a computerized revenue data base in place.

This was in a crisis meeting called by Bwanika that was attended by all departmental heads in the district.

Bwanika accused the district revenue collectors of stealing the district taxes and he believes the data base will check the revenue loss.

"The creation of the new municipalities like Nansana, Kira and makindye left Wakiso district with less revenue because those urban centers do not remit any money to the district headquarters yet the district activities need to continue,"Bwanika said.

He said that he cannot just look on when the district revenue is being taken by just individuals when the district has a budget to finance but he declined to mention some of the individuals involved in stealing the district revenues.

Bwanika also pointed out that the district officials in the service commission do extort money when giving out district jobs sometimes leaving out credible people because they do not have money.

"I have also learnt that some workers in the district are not doing their jobs because of the way public service is handling the issue of jobs including promotions," said Bwanika.
He wants the district service commission to be transparent, give out jobs on merit and stop extorting money from the applicants.

Wakiso district chief administrative officer Dunstan Yiga Mukasa reacted to this by saying that the procedure of getting district jobs is clear because interviews are organized and they pick the best candidate.

Mukasa refuted the allegation that for one to get a job at Wakiso district they have to pay some money as a bribe and he said that if this happens to anyone then that person should go to police to have that district officer arrested.

He seconded the idea of having a computerized revenue data base saying that it's going to help the district to know the lost taxes and the new tax payers and promised that it will be in place by august.

Departmental heads were warned against the performance of their departments and the chief administrative officer said that he is not interested in non-performers.
