Police in Arua have arrested five suspects and recovered two motorcycles that where allegedly being smuggled to the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The West Nile Regional Police Commander, Ibrahim Saiga said the arrest was effected after receiving intelligence information that some people where smuggling (motorcycles) to DRC.

"We arrested these suspects in the wee hours from Odramachaku trading Centre in Arua District. Intelligence information indicated that they stole the motorcycles from Uganda and they planned to smuggle them to DRC," he said.

Police identified the suspects as Jimmy Adriko, 24, a resident of Arua town, Dhilliam Awuju 20, a businessman, Herbert Afayoa 20, a farmer from Maracha, Charity Lenia 25, a resident of Arua and Geoffrey Onzi 30, a resident of Maracha.

Saiga said the only lady in the group  is suspected to be the ring leader of this gang.

It's alleged that Lenia sometimes pretends to be a passenger who wants a ride before leading her culprits to the bushes, where her colleagues grab the motorcycle from the innocent rider.
