President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday officially opened the 24th National Agricultural and Trade Show at Jinja Show Ground.
This was only the official opening, as the exhibition which has attracted scores of exhibitors, opened on Monday this week. It is going on until this Sunday (July 17).
The president's convoy eased into the Jinja Show Ground Thursday afternoon. Jinja town is located some 80km east of Uganda's capital Kampala
Museveni received a warm welcome by the people at the show, with some donning NRM party T-shirts emblazoned with the president's image. Remember that this comes only months after Museveni was re-elected into power in the February 18th presidential elections
Wearing a white shirt and grey trousers, and his trademark hat, the president was taken around for a tour of the exhibition
He made a stop at various stalls, taking time off to admire what was on show and also have a chat with the exhibitors themselves
Earlier, the showground manager Peter Kisambira had said the president would make an address at show hall. "We believe his [president's] tour of the show will go a long way in wooing many people to join the show in the remaining days," Kisambira had said
The agricultural show sets a platform for displaying and identifying innovations made by local and foreign companies through improved technologies for better production, marketing and poverty eradication
This year, the focus is on climate-smart agriculture with a view to enhance sustainable national food security and farm incomes as mitigate and adapt to the impact of climate change
