Jul 14, 2016

The musclemen will compete in six categories; Bantam, Welter, Middle, Light Middle, Light Heavy and Heavy from which the winner will emerge.

The Mr. Kampala Body Building title will be up for grabs when over 60 musclemen fight for the title at Mount Zion Hotel on July 31.

With would be defending champion Mubarak Kizito now focused on international competitions, a new champ is set to emerge from the rest of the field that will have competitors from different gyms across the country.

Addressing a press conference at Mt. Zion Hotel on Thursday, Uganda Body Building and Fitness Association secretary Richard Ssentongo said this year's competition will attract competitors from as far as Lira, Jinja, Masaka and Mbarara.

"We are currently number one in natural bodybuilding in Africa because of Ivan Byekwaso and Mubarak Kizito's exploits internationally, so we expect stiff competition so that we can fill the vaccum left by them locally,"

"We are giving opportunity to upcountry contestants to come and learn a few tricks which they will take and spread the sport," Ssentongo in the company of assistant general secretary Joseph Nkoyoyo and Treasurer John Ssemyalo said.

He said the Mr. Uganda competition will follow in October on a date yet to be decided.

"Next year we plan to start regional competitions on top of the Mr. Kampala and Mr. Uganda ones; with a ‘Night of Champions' competition climaxing the regional tour contests," Ssentongo added.

The musclemen will compete in six categories; Bantam, Welter, Middle, Light Middle, Light Heavy and Heavy from which the winner will emerge.

This year's championship will also feature a muscle modeling contest for ladies among them Natasha Kaitesi and weightlifter Irene Kasuubo.

The event is sponsored by Mt. Zion Hotel, Shayan Energy, HOMEBET, Oddman, Oxford SS Kawempe, Nakivubo and Fit for Life gym.
