Nambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi football federations have requested to compete in the inaugural CECAFA Women Championships due in Kampala in September.

FUFA president Moses Magogo said on Thursday that their counterparts in those countries had written to them asking to be part of the competition.

FUFA has already received confirmation from the hosts Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Sudan. Kenya will use the competition to prepare for their debut at the Africa Nations Cup finals in Cameroon, November.

Crested Cranes coach Majidah Nantanda believes if given enough time to prepare her girls they will be a serious contender for the inaugural CECAFA women's championships.

A fortnight ago, the Crested Cranes played their first match since two years ago when FUFA withdrew from continental women soccer to reorganise for better competition.

Rwanda's national women's team, the She-Amavubi, started residential camp last Saturday in preparation for CECAFA.

They will play friendly match against Tanzania set for July 16 at Amahoro Stadium.
