All Africa University Games
Ndejje University's Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eriabu Lugujju has appealed to the students in the athletics team that won gold in South Africa to take sports as a career.
"You could fail to get a job following the situation in the country lately but if you continue with athletics, you are assured of some earnings so you should not under look your talents," Lugujjo said.
He made the remarks at the press conference at the university's main branch in Luwero district adding that the gold medals Sadic Bahati, Annet Chebet, Prim Twikirize and Dorcus Ajok won at the recently concluded All Africa University Games could contribute to changing their lives in the future.
The male athlete Bahati and his female counterparts Chebet, Twikirize and Ajok managed to win 7 gold medals, 3 silvers, 3 bronze in the 200m, 800, 1500, 5,000 and 10,000m at the weeklong event held in Johannesburg.
Their joint efforts collected 13 of the 18 medals that took Uganda to third place overall. Nine countries took part.
At the 8th edition of the continental event, Brenda Nabusindo and Daniel Sebunnya both from Uganda Christian University (UCU) won 4 gold medals in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles in badminton.
While Makerere University also went ahead to clinch the 3-aside basketball women's title while their male counterparts finished second after losing to University Of Johannesburg in the final.
Kyambogo University finished with a bronze in athletics while Busitema's Mariam Natukunda and Brenda Kyaterekera walked away with no medal in chess.
