D'Mark's International Master Title holder (IM) Arthur Ssegwanyi has proven to be the most outstanding chess player of the season after beating fellow IM Elijah Emojong of City Chess Club.

Ssegwanyi who played the black piece was in superb form as be handed Emojong his first defeat of the season on top of picking his teams opening point on board-one during the National Chess League on Sunday.

His teammate Benjamin Magana also beat Morris Sangalo while D'Mark's FM Patrick Kawuma and Walter Okas drew with Rajab Kamoga and Fauza Farouk in a tough encounter that ended in a 3-2 in favour of the defending champions.

In the third round that was played earlier, Emojong beat another strong opponent FM Harold Wanyama from Kireka in the game that ended in a 2.5-2.5 draw.

The other first division action, D'Mark thumped Kyambogo University 5-0 to stay at the top of the table with 8 points while Aviation beat Mulago Overs 4.5-0.5 and Mulago Knights 4-1 to stay in the chase also with 8pts in second place followed by Kiraka with 7pts in third.

Meanwhile leading the second division table is Mulago Rooks with 8pts after beating MUBS and UCU Queens 5-0 and 4-1 respectively at the same venue.
