The First Lady promised to revamp the country’s education

The First Lady Janet Museveni was on Monday handed the reins of the education ministry.

The one-and-a-half-hour event was held at the ministry headquarters in Kampala.

Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo handed over the office to her, and promised to support her at any moment that she needs help.

"I will be there to avail you all the support you need, in relation to this ministry," she said.

During the same event, she also briefed the First Lady on the ongoing programs at the ministry and the challenges it still faces.

Also present at the handover was the new primary education state minister Rosemary Sseninde, who received instruments of power for her office from the re-appointed state minister for higher education Dr John Chrysostom Muyingo.

Dr. Muyingo also received once again the instruments of power for his new office, which he held way back from 2011 to early 2015 when he was re-assigned to handle the docket for primary education as a state minister.

At the time, Muyingo handed over the higher education office to Prof. Sandy Stevens Tickodri-Togboa who was not re-appointed.

The re-appointed sports state minister, Charles Bakkabulindi and Tickodri-Togboa also attended the handover function which was graced by almost all directors and commissioners, and executive secretaries of the semi-autonomous units of the ministry.

Meanwhile, the First Lady promised to work together with all the staff and political heads of the ministry, to revamp the country's education.

"I also call upon all the ministry staff to get united, for the benefit of our country's education," she said.

She also thanked Alupo and the other education state ministers and staff for the, "Great work they have been doing at the education ministry."
