Paramedics tried to save his life at the scene but all in vain.

LONDON - An 18-year-old footballer who played for Uganda at the 2015 Africa Youth Qualifiers has been murdered at his home in south London, UK.

Matthew Kitwande, was stabbed to death on his front door, reports the Standard.

For nearly an hour after the attack, paramedics tried to save his life at the scene but he succumbed to his injuries.

It is reportedly the third such incident involving the killing of a teenager in London this year.

Kitwande played as a right-back for Colliers Wood United and had just been promoted to the first team.

He had expressed interest in playing for his parents' country of origin: Uganda.

"I have a dream and that is representing my country," he is reported to have told a local sports website last year.

Scotland Yard said an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at a south London police station.
