Two arrested for stealing company vehicle

The two were arrested after a tip off from intelligence and they are currently being held at Katwe Police Station

Police has arrested two drivers from Chinese Construction Company for stealing a company vehicle.

According to police, the two suspects Vincent Okiru, 37, and Saddick Muyomba, 24, are said to have planned the robbery of a Nissan van registration number UAR 255R before the expulsion of Okiru from the company responsible for constructing the Entebbe Express Highway.

"The two and others at large had a plan of stealing this vehicle, so after the expulsion of Okiru on allegation of stealing fuel from the company, they organized and stole the car from the company parking yard", said Benson Ayebale the Regional officer in charge, CID Katwe police station.

Ayebale added that the two were arrested after a tip off from intelligence and they are currently being held at Katwe Police Station.

Okiru who was expelled from the company on March 16th had been working as a driver for close to four years. He was arrested at Kabalagala Police Station recently.

Muyomba is currently working with the same company and was arrested at the company premises located at Akright Entebbe.

"After a tip off that he must have been involved in the robbery, we called administration to ensure he does not leave the offices, police later arrested him", Ayebale said.

He said the vehicle could have been taken to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with a foreign number plate with the intention of selling it there. However, investigations are still underway.

The two suspects were charged with possessing of a stolen motor vehicle under file number 04/29/04/2016.
