The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Uganda in September 2013 formed the Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) Area of Convergence as a framework to coordinate the UN Agencies in their efforts to support the Government of Uganda to improve maternal and newborn health.

In order to address the issue of human resources, especially midwives, in support to the key interventions to accelerate MNH results in Karamoja, Northern and West Nile Uganda, the MNH convergence group proposed to identify resources to enable recruitment of midwives.
