Suspect Godfrey Kitakule reportedly promised his victims free education.

KIBOGA - A man accused of conning parents out of millions of shillings has been remanded to prison.

Godfrey Kitakule, a resident of Bulenga trading center in Wakiso district, is said to have promised a number of parents in Kyankwanzi district that he would offer their children free education up to university.

He reportedly told them they had to pay sh500,000 to carter for transport, registration and other needs.

The 39-year-old, according to some of his victims, claimed to own a school in Kampala - Mercy Education Foundation Center.

He was arrested after authorities received reports from victims and when he appeared before Kiboga Grade One Magistrate Ronald Nsobya, Kitakule pleaded not guilty.

The suspect allegedly collected over 140 pupils from Kyankwanzi each at a fee of sh500, 000.

Prosecution told court that the accused man conned a one Juliet Nkuusi out of sh200,000 as an advance installment for her child to get free education at Kitakule's purported school.

This, according the prosecution, happened on March 2 this year at Banda trading center in Kyankwanzi sub-county.

Magistrate Nsobya remanded Kitakule to Kiboga Government Prison until June 17 when he will reappear in court for further mention of the case.
