Amongi contested for the Oyam South seat on a UPC ticket

Oyam South Member of Parliament Betty Amongi has attributed her appointment as Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development to the support Lango region showed the running National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the 2016 General Elections.

"I think the overwhelming support that Lango sub region gave to President Yoweri Museveni is why he has rewarded it with two ministers" Amongi said.

"The cabinet needs a person who can work for the nation and not a party, religion or tribe so my work in various committees over the years could also have informed the appointment" she added.

Amongi contested for the Oyam South seat on a Uganda People's Congress (UPC) ticket and is the partner of Lira Municipality MP Jimmy Akena, son of UPC founder Milton Obote.
