Muloni filed the petition protesting the outcome of the February 18 elections for Bulambuli Woman Member of Parliament

Mbale High Court will on July 13 make a ruling in an election petition filed by the Minister for Energy and Mineral development, Irene Nafuna Muloni against the Electoral Commission and Sarah Wekomba Nambozo.

Muloni filed the petition protesting the outcome of the February 18 elections for Bulambuli Woman Member of Parliament. She lost to Sarah Wekomba.

She  claims the elections were marred by irregularities, intimidation and harassment of her supporters.

The first hearing was held on Monday in a packed courtroom attended by both Muloni and Wekomba's supporters.

Presiding over the case was Lady Justice Margaret Oguli Oumo. Court commenced with the cross examination of Muloni's witnesses before Wekomba took to the dock to respond to questions by Muloni's lawyer.

Justice Oguli gave the Electoral Commission and Sarah Wekomba (the respondents) up to June 15, 2016 to make their final submissions while the Minister Muloni (the petitioner) will make hers on June 20, 2016.

Addressing the media shortly after the court hearing, Minister Muloni said she is optimistic that court will deliver a satisfactory ruling on judgment day.

She called for calm among her supporters as they wait for the final court verdict of the petition.
