Best of the Best awards, a flop like no other
May 24, 2016
The awards will go down in history as the worst thing to ever happen to the entertainment industry
There is something awfully wrong with Uganda's entertainment industry.
So wrong that everyone who has a few artiste friends feels like they can organize awards to, in their words; "recognize and appreciate the industry stakeholders".
Many of them manage to dupe the public and mint handsomely off the fraudulent venture.
But there are some who fail so miserably. And that was the case at last week's Best of the Best Awards.
Staged at Theatre La Bonita, the Best of the Best awards will go down in history as the worst thing to ever happen to the entertainment industry.
Gates were opened at 7:00pm, but it was going to take more than witchcraft to bring the revelers.
The few that showed up were artiste fanatics that the musical artistes had delegated to come and pick their awards.
The audience, thus, was filled mostly by groups like Team Bafana (musician Ziza Bafana's fans), Sheebaholics (Sheeba Karungi's staunch fans) and David Lutalo's fans.
After dispersing the revelers prudently, across the auditorium to disguise the flop, the event's activities started.
To curtain raise, at around 8:30pm was an endless list of unknown musicians.
The awarding ceremony then started, later at 10:30pm before the 'Best Artist of the Year'; David Lutalo crowned the night with a performance to mark a flop like no other.
