Police is hunting for 23 Ugandans who were abducted from Yumbe district by unknown people who raided villages in Koci County.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said a group of people dressed in what looked like military attire raided the village where they also killed two people from one family.

Enanga said that police and military personnel pursued the attackers to rescue the people until they crossed the border into South Sudan.

"They were driven towards the Jalimo area which is in the Central Equatorial Province of South Sudan believed to hold a training camp for one of the rebels loyal to Maj Gen Martin Kenyi" Enanga said.

"We found that we couldn't enter foreign territory as international law demands but we are now working with South Sudan counterparts so that there is a safe return for them" he added.
