Six family members perish in Masaka accident

The family was travelling in a Toyota Corona car registration number UAG-121L when it rammed head on with a Toyota Fuso UAV-177K killing all six people on board instantly.


A total of six family members have died in a road accident at Namajuzi swamp near Kyabakuza three Km to Masaka Town.

The family was travelling in a Toyota Corona car registration number UAG-121L when it rammed head on with a Toyota Fuso UAV-177K killing all six people on board instantly.

The accident happened at mid-day on Friday.

The deceased were coming from Kinoni, Lwengo district heading to Gomba for a burial ceremony.

According to the Southern Regional OC Traffic, Grace Nampijja, the dead included the driver, Herman Muganga, Peter
Ssenyondo, Yubu Ssempijja, Willy Ssemugga, Gerald Kawesi and a one Bwambale.

Nampijja told The New Vision that the Fuso truck driver was trying to save a boda-boda cyclist when rammed into the Corona.  

"It's been long since we saw such a nasty accident on this road," she said.

She said the driver emerged from truck unharmed and fled the scene after the accident.

Nampijja attributed the accident to over speeding and reckless driving.

The Masaka DPC, John Mwaule told The New Vision that the bodies of the deceased are kept at Masaka Regional referral hospital mortuary.
