New MPs appeal to opposition to abandon protests

A group of Members of Parliament for the next parliament which will be sworn in next week have appealed to Ugandans especially those who belong to the opposition to accept the outcome of the 2016 elections and support president Yoweri Museveni in his efforts of transforming the country

The MPs elect, who included Kasanda South MP Semeo Nsubuga, Nyabushozi MP Fred Mwesigye, Kaliro woman MP Margaret Mbeiza, workers' MP Arinaitwe Rwakajara, and Kabula MP James Kakooza, urged the opposition and the youth to desist from acts which destabilize the country.

Speaking under the banner of Tutalengo Moja (Let Us Move Together), the MPs dismissed the EU and Commonwealth observers' reports which raised a red flag upon the 2016 general elections.

Asked why they should expect the opposition not to protest yet they believe the elections were rigged, Mwesigye said, "The NRM government has organised the most transparent elections in the history of Uganda. Those observers have their own mission which is to disorganize Uganda to be like Libya."

Arinaitwe Rwakajara said, "I ask President Yoweri Museveni and the others who won. I ask all workers to stop politicking and focus on developing the country. I ask young people not to be misguided into wrong acts."

James Kakooza  said, "The political question was solved on February 18, 2016. The political season has ended. We now need to join efforts regardless of our political inclinations to fight corruption because the corrupt are the enemies of the country."

Ssewava Mukasa, the coordinator of the group said they have organized a walk to Kololo tomorrow of 50,000 youth most of whom have abandoned opposition defiance acts.
