Aswa dam set to boost business, farmers excited

Residents travel to Gulu district to look for rice hullers and maize millers because there is no electricity in the area

Residents of Pungole Parish, Angagura Sub County, Pader district have said the construction of the Hydro Power dam on Aswa River, near Lateng hill, will save them from the burden of travelling for long distances to look for rice hullers.
 
At the moment they have to travel to Gulu district to look for rice hullers and maize millers because there is no electricity in the area.
 
The LCI Chairman of Libi Village, Pungole Parish, Janani Okulu P Otwon says once power is connected farmers will have ready market for the products because small scale factories will set up in the area.
 
The 100 megawatt power dam will be constructed by Aswa River Power Energy [ARPE]
 
The Director of [ARPE] Kenneth Kaheru says they are going to develop five power stations on Aswa River.
 
Pader Resident District Commissioner Justin Lungajul advised the local community to take advantage of the construction to get jobs and increase their household income.
