May 01, 2016
The Holy Liturgy was presided over by the Metropolitan of the Holy Metropolis of Kampala and All Uganda, His Eminence Archbishop Jonah Lwanga.
Hundreds of Orthodox Christians Sunday, May 1 flocked St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, Namungoona, in Rubaga Division, to mark Easter.
The Holy Liturgy was presided over by the Metropolitan of the Holy Metropolis of Kampala and All Uganda, His Eminence Archbishop Jonah Lwanga.
He was assisted by the Cathedral parish-priest, Fr. Nicholas Bayego, Fr. Emmanuel Kiwanuka, and Orthodox Deacons Dan Kiwanuka and George Lule.
Delivering his homily during the liturgy, Archbishop Lwanga asked Christians to deepen their faith in God, in order to lead holy lives. Lwanga argued that socio-economic irregularities like corruption, violence and disrespect for human life could be overcome only if people assimilated the principles of Christianity.
Lwanga later delivered the message of the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Beatitude Theodorous II, who asked Ugandans to show love to the poor, the sick, the prisoners and the disadvantaged.
The holy liturgy was also attended by the Executive Secretary of the Uganda Joint Christian Council, Fr. Dr. Sylvester Arinaitwe and Canon John Awodi, the in-charge of Ecumenism and Inter-faith dialogue at UJCC.
