Games, for example soccer and racing, are traditionally acknowledged for enhancing the physical fitness and health of those who are involved in them. But sports activities also have the capacity to enhance a person's reasoning capacity.
Dr. Rose Nassali, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education explained: "Sports enhances higher thinking and reasoning. A respective sports activity helps a person to know how to lose, but lose honourably. Sports also help young people to know that in any game there is a winner and a loser, such that even in the case of a loss, life continues normally. Games further help students to forge everlasting solidarity and friendships."
Nassali, an alumnus of Trinity College Nabbingo gave this explanation during the school's annual sports gala that was held at the school in Wakiso district, recently.
Nassali commended the management and staff of Trinity College Nabbingo for promoting sports.
The head teacher of the college, Coltilda Nakate Kikomeko revealed that the school had been selected as one of the 32 model schools, to promote sports. She later requested government to help the school to implement its project to modernize its sports field, which she said required at least sh250m.
Margaret House won the competitions with 638 points. It triumphed over Cecilia House (which scooped 638 points), Monica House (600 points), Gorrette House (568 points), Alex House (482 points) and Theresa House (476 points).
The students of the respective houses competed in games like chess, soccer, basket-ball, net-ball, volley-ball, long-jump, high-jump, racing (100m, 200m, 400mX4, 100mX4) and cross-country (3,000m and beyond). The sports gala was one of the activities to celebrate the schools platinum jubilee.
