5 schools abandoned following Bundibugyo clashes

All the affected schools are located in Kirumya sub county

Up to five primary schools in Bundibugyo district have been abandoned following tribal clashes between the Bamba and Bakonjo that broke out in the district almost a month ago now. 

Both teachers and pupils have abandoned the schools.

Ndyanabo Timothy, the Bundibugyo district education officer, says that the abandoned schools include Butukuru Primary School, Bundikeki Primary School, Kirumya Muslim School Primary School, Bundibuturo Primary School and Kabuuga Primary School. 

All the affected schools are located in Kirumya sub county Bwamba County which was at the center of the attacks that left over 40 people dead. 

Mucunguzi Geoffrey the Resident District Commissioner Bundibugyo says his office has embarked on mass mobilization programs to encourage the citizens to resume normal business. 

Over 40 people have so far died in the tribal clashes between the Bamba and Bakonjo tribes in the districts of Kasese and Bundibugyo.
